My name is Adler and I'm stuck in the year 1972. Their pot is shit, and I need to get back to my time.
How did I get here? I blame it on the scientist who gave me the damn time machine in the first place.

I was in my apartment in the Denver taking a bong rip, minding my own business, when I heard my door slam open. Some old guy stared at me while catching his breath.

My lungs were full of smoke. I let it out and said, "dude. I think you have the wrong place."
"There's no time," he yelled. "I'm forced to give this to an idiot. Oh God, I can't believe I'm doing this."
He pulled a weird-looking cylindrical-shaped device out of his jacket. He said, "There is an extraterrestrial species from the future eating up every living being on this planet and then heading back in time to eat more of us. They know what I look like and have found a way to track me. You need to go back in time and warn everyone to get prepared."
I pulled out my phone.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
I dialed 911. The old man grabbed my phone and threw it into the fish tank.
"Dude!" I shouted.
He grabbed me and then pressed a button on the device. Everything around us started to vibrate and turn red.
"What just happened?" I fearfully asked?
"We are in a zero-dimensional pocket of space-time. I told you that I don't have time for this shit. You need to listen to me, and you need to listen well. There are more evolved species from outer space coming to delete us from time. I need you to get your little ripped-ass stoner self off the couch and send this message to the appropriate authorities."
At that point, he had me. I can't explain what was going on, but I did know that this guy was serious. If he was going to kill me, he would have done so by now. I don't have a phone anymore, and something tells me I should listen to this guy.
"What do I do"? I asked.
He replied: "I have found a way to program this with instructions. You only have to press this button and let them know that they will only have fifty years to prepare and build the appropriate technology to fight back. Do you understand what I am saying?"
"Will I be able to come back to my time after I'm done?" I asked.
"Probably not. The aliens were right behind me when I got here," he said.
"I can't leave my friends and family behind," I said.
"If you stay, you will die with them. This is your only hope. Don't be an idiot. The entire history of the human race depends on it."
"What do I have to do?" I asked.
"I already told you what you have to do. You're a messenger boy. I already did all the programming for you. I have set the time for the year 1972. Look for Doctor Joseph Sousa on 334 Main Street Ouray, Colorado. He will know the appropriate people to reach and get this started."
He pressed several more buttons, and a green cube formed around us. He stepped outside of it. "I have it programmed for you to land in Ouray. Are you going to remember his name and where he lives?"
"Doctor Joseph Sousa at 334 Main Street Ouray Colorado," I confidently replied.
"There's some hope for you after all. Now don't waste any time. I'm sending you back fifty years. That doesn't mean you will have fifty years. They could be there moments after you arrive, so don't fuck around. You see the green-looking dot?"
"Yeah," I replied.
"Wave your finger over it to the left to rip open the window, and wave your finger over it to the right for the instructions to pop up," he said.
A portal door ripped open in front of me. On the other side, I saw a bunch of outdated buildings.
"Jump through the window," he commanded.
I took a deep breath and jumped. I fell about four feet and landed on top of a building.
"Ouch, Jesus!"
I could hear the portal to 2022 close behind me.

I slowly got up. I stepped to the edge of the building and stared at the relic environment. 434 Main Street... 343 Main Street? Shit. What's the first part of the address again? He probably should have written it down for me.
I walked over to the roof door. It's locked. I must have shook it for about five minutes before I realized I wasn't going to open it, nor was anyone coming to open it. I scoped around. The building to my left was only about five feet. I think.
I took a few steps back and then ran forward. I didn't make it to the other roof. I did, however, safely land in the dumpster. Oh damn, did it smell. It reeked so bad that it jogged my memory. "334!" I shout out loud! "334. 334. 334."

I kept repeating that until I got inside a bar and asked the tender, "where can I find 334 Main Street?"
The bartender replied, "The road out front is Main Street." He pointed in a direction and continued, "If you head that way, you'll find a cabin at the end of the road before hitting Million Dollar Highway."
I thanked the man and started walking.
"You gonna buy a beer?" He asked.
"You don't take my kind of money," I replied.
He shot me a baffled look as I turned around and walked out.
I glanced at the road ahead of me, staring at the majestic-looking mountain that seemed to be the defining future of this little town.

I walked up the hill known as Main Street. I could see why anybody would want to live out here. It's freakin gorgeous. It reminded me of pictures I saw of Switzerland once.

I finally reached 334. A bunch of stringed lights covered the place like an obstacle course.

I stumbled my way through it and knocked on his door. He opened it.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"You are a lot nicer than your friend," I said.
"I'm sorry, but do I know you? He asked.
I said, "No, but your friend sent me here with something important.".
"And which friend might that be?" He queried.
"You know, I probably should have asked that before he sent me here," I admitted. "All I know is that he was some type of scientist like you, and he convinced me to travel from 2022 to 1972 to hand you this," I said while I pulled the disc-shaped spacetime device out of my pocket.
His eyebrows expressed interest. "Come in, come in. I'll go and make us some herbal tea," He said.
I shut the door behind me and took a seat at the kitchen table. Minutes later, he poured some tea.
I lifted the cup to my nose and sniffed. "This smells like weed!"
"I love making herbal tea with cannabis," he replied. "Now tell me about this device."
"I don't know much about it other than that it allows traveling through space and time, and has a stored set of instructions on how to save the human race from a time deleting alien species," I informed him.
I waved my finger to the right over the green dot, and the instructions popped out. Dr. Sousa looks at them in awe.
"Dr. Jim Bennett. I know that arrogant tone from anywhere," he said.
"Yeah, that sounds like him," I said.
"There is a military base not too far from here. If what I am reading is true, we better head over there now," he said.
I paused. "Like right now? I'm kind of enjoying the flavor of this tea."
"I have plenty more for later. Come. Let's go and stop these creatures," said Dr. Sousa.
He didn't have a car, so we walked up Million Dollar Highway. Kind of reminds me of Germany's Autoban. Very snake-like.

About two hours later, we arrived at what looked like an entrance to a bunker. Military personnel guarded it. Dr. Sousa took out an ID card and handed it to one of the officers. He nodded his head and let us in.
We walked through a long narrow hallway until we reached a corridor. There stood a man smoking a cigarette casually. He turned to us and said, "Joe, what are you doing here today? Aren't you off?"
Dr. Sousa replied, "I wish I was here under better terms, but we need to examine a device and probably start making calls to the pentagon."
"That serious, huh?" asked the man.
We walked into a secured room. I sat there for hours while they played science. By the end, I could tell that they got nowhere with it.
"Come on, Adler, let's get some rest and come back in the morning. Some people from the government are going to stop by here tomorrow."
We lit up a joint as soon as we got back to Joe's place. "This is shit," I scolded.
"What do you mean?" asked Joe.
"I don't know. Maybe I'm just used to future weed, but this is weak as fuck, dude," I complained.
We both went to bed. In the middle of my deep sleep, I felt an earthquake. I quickly opened my eyes and looked out the window. There was an intensely bright yellow light behind what Joe called mount Hayden. I felt the ground shake even more intensely.

My stomach started to churn because I knew it was them. I knocked on Joe's door, but he wasn't answering. I finally busted in and started shaking him.
"Wake up," I shouted. "Wake the fuck up! They're here!"
He makes one last loud snore before opening his eyes in surprise. "What's going on?" He alarmingly asked.
"The God-damn aliens are here! We need to get the fuck out of here now!!!" I yelled.
He jumped out of bed and looked outside the window. "Yeah. We are not going back to the military base. If that is them behind mount Hayden, we will have to go elsewhere."
We put on our clothes and shoes, grabbed the device, and headed out.
"Joe, I think the device is traceable," I complained. They found me here! I should have never listened to Jim! I was fucked from the beginning! That son of a bitch! Where are we running to?"
"Anywhere but here," Joe replied.
Within minutes, I saw a swarm of beasts fly out of a window like the one I ripped opened and jumped through to get here, but a million times bigger.
Within seconds, most of Ouray was covered in them. I pulled out the alien device, swiped left on the green dot, and out popped the last programmed location for time travel. I did not have to decipher any foreign language since the entire thing was a pictogram. I pulled what looked like light particles in the direction of a timeline. I could see the picture of Ouray on the screen turn red and then shift into a reverse timeline. Everything was moving backward on it. I pulled hard, and the event sped up. I heard a thousand growls hurling closer to me.
I let go of the reverse button just as they swallowed Joe whole. I swiped left on the green dot and ripped open a window. I jumped through it and closed it.
I couldn't catch my breath. What the fuck did I get myself into?
To be continued...
